of Portugal is ideally suited to a riding tour and the climate
remains exceptionally temperate all year. This is one of the
least populated parts of Europe and has been protected by law
from the unbridled development which has taken place on so much
of the coast. The routes have been chosen from the 1,000 miles
of firm, sandy tracks to give the widest variety of landscape
and the most opportunity for trots and canters. The rides traverse
oak and pine forests, cross golden plains ablaze with wildflowers
and skirt the spectacular Atlantic Coast.
