Horseback Riding Finland
Artic
Summer Sun Trek: This
trek follows the famous Bear's Ring Trail in southern Lapland,
through a wilderness of spruce and pine forests with lush
undergrowth opening onto sunny meadows and lakes. The landscape
is dominated by two scenic river valleys; the Oulanka and
the Kitka, along which most of the camps are located. The
trail loops north almost to the Arctic Circle and touches
the Russian border to the east. The Finnish horses with their
steady, kind nature are perfectly adapted to steep descents
and river crossings, and are also eager for long canters on
the sandy tracks. Not only is this an unusual riding destination,
it is a chance to experience the extended daylight of the
Arctic summer, take a traditional Finnish sauna, see reindeer
in the wild, and gain an appreciation for the hardy people
who call this northern country home.
