Riding Argentina
Patagonia
Ride
Argentina
is a huge and varied country. The distance from awesome Iguazu
Falls in the north to the inhospitable glaciers of Tierra
del Fuego is as great as from Maine to Florida. There are
the vast pampas in the east and the towering chain of the
Andes in the west. Buenos Aires is one of the biggest and
most lively cities in the world.
The
base for this ride is a 15,000 acre estancia in the foothills of the
Andes, run by an English woman. She does an excellent job of bridging
the gap between the local culture and ours. The remote estancia is
amazingly self-sufficient and grows much of its own food. The rides
provide glorious views of the vast grasslands, where one can often see
deer and guanaco; there are also ancient Indian burial sites and
petroglyphs. At some times of year guests can help move cattle from
pasture to pasture. It is also possible to take pack trips into the
Andes where a land of rivers, lakes and rolling hills rises up to meet
snow-capped mountains and soaring volcanoes.
